Our Throw Bags category sits under Watersports → Rescue and currently shows 11 products. The live range includes Palm throw bags such as the Arc 12.5m Throwbag and the Bolt 20m Throwbag, which tells you straight away this is a specialist rescue category rather than a general paddling accessory shelf.

This category is mainly for paddlers and river users who need rescue gear as part of a proper water-safety setup. OffTrack’s watersports range is built around paddle sports with a strong emphasis on safety gear, including PFDs, helmets, dry bags, river knives, wrap kit essentials and throw bags. That makes this category more relevant to whitewater, moving water and rescue-conscious paddling than to casual gear browsing.

A throw bag is a rescue rope packed into a bag that can be thrown to a swimmer. OffTrack’s own research material describes it that way and also makes the bigger point clear: owning one is not the same as knowing how to use it. In rescue gear, function and competence need to go together.

We start with the water environment, the paddling style and who will be using the gear. A rescue setup for occasional flatwater paddling is a different conversation from a whitewater or expedition-focused setup. OffTrack’s advice model is to match gear to the activity, experience level and likely rescue scenarios, rather than act as though one product suits every river day.

The practical filters are rope length, intended rescue use, how technical the water is and whether the throw bag is part of a broader swiftwater setup that also includes a PFD, helmet, river knife and other rescue items. The reason this matters is simple: a throw bag is rarely a standalone purchase in serious paddling. It usually sits inside a wider safety system.

Not every paddler has the same level of need, but the category becomes much more relevant once you move into rivers, rapids, group paddling or any setup where rescue planning is part of the day. OffTrack’s watersports guidance repeatedly emphasises safety for whitewater and moving-water paddling, including helmets, rescue-capable PFDs and throw bags. That points to a clear rule of thumb: the more consequence the environment carries, the more this category matters.
