Chameleon
Chameleon is the natural evolution of our much-loved Second Life Project. Built on the same foundations of sustainability, community, and adventure, Chameleon takes things further—re-homing, recycling, and re-making outdoor gear so that nothing goes to waste, and more people get the chance to explore the outdoors.

What is Chameleon?
Formerly known as the Second Life Project, Chameleon is Offtrack’s initiative to reduce waste, reuse materials, and re-home outdoor equipment.
When gear is no longer needed by its current owner, Chameleon steps in to find it a new life. Whether that’s with individuals on NDIS programs, schools, scouts, or community groups with limited budgets, this gear makes outdoor experiences possible that might otherwise be out of reach.
How Chameleon Works
We operate through three pathways:
Re-Home
Good-quality gear is matched with new users who need it most. From backpacks to sleeping bags, these items find a second life with adventurers who wouldn’t otherwise have access to them.
Re-Cycle
If equipment can’t be re-homed, we do our best to recycle its materials in an environmentally sustainable way. Keeping outdoor gear out of landfill is at the heart of what we do.
Re-Make
Some donations arrive as samples, demos, or gear with a little wear and tear. We repair, rebrand, and restore these items, giving them the chance to be used again. Occasionally, some of these are sold at low cost to help fund Chameleon and support future donations.
Why It Matters
EVERYTHING EVENTUALLY COMES TO AN END BUT THIS WAY MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS CAN HAVE A 2ND LIFE
By supporting Chameleon, you’re not just reducing waste—you’re empowering people to get outdoors. Re-homed and re-made equipment helps individuals, schools, and community programs keep running, while giving more people the opportunity to experience the benefits of nature.

Chameleon
You’ve just upgraded your hiking pack, again, and the old one’s giving you dirty looks from the bottom of the cupboard. It’s still pretty good, just not as good as the new one. It needs a new home, but who can be bothered sticking it on Gumtree and spending the next two weeks replying to Kevin that lives out of state and wants to know if you’ll post it to him. Oh and can you give him a sweet deal because he’s only got 20 bucks. There’s got to be a better way, right?
Chameleon might just be the answer.
So how does it work?
Follow the steps below and see how your donations are moved through our process!
FAQS
How did you come up with this idea?
Marcus has his hair cut by Nasir Sobhani who created ‘the streets barber movement.’ The movement offers free haircuts for homeless people. While cutting Marcus’s hair in the barber shop they were chatting and the conversation sparked the idea of rehoming outdoor equipment with the homeless.
How can I help?
We often have bigger donations that need sorting and fixing. If you would like to volunteer your time to help then let us know. Alternatively if you think you can support in any other way let us know.
What are Chameleon Products Re-Created products?
This is in the infant stage and we are still trying a few different designs and ideas. If you have an idea of what to make from the recycled materials then we would love to hear it!
