There is no single lumen figure that suits every activity.

Lower output can be enough for reading, cooking and moving around camp. Hiking at night generally benefits from more reach, while running, cycling and technical movement may require a brighter beam and stronger distance lighting.

Compare the stated runtime at each output level—not only the maximum lumen figure. Some headlamps can sustain their brightest setting for a relatively short period before stepping down or using significant battery capacity.

Rechargeable headlamps are convenient for regular use and remove the need to keep replacing disposable batteries. They work particularly well when you can recharge between outings or carry a suitable power bank.
